About

The Understanding is an ongoing field study in India, examining the gap between how entrepreneurship in India is imagined from the outside and how it operates from within.

The project is led by Vonny Chen, a researcher working between Taipei and India. It is sponsored by a Taiwan government research programme, with partners across both countries.

The work proceeds through structured interviews with founders, operators, advisors, and ecosystem builders — both foreign and Indian — and produces field notes, thematic reports, and selected public conversations.

The study offers a map of the terrain, not a manual for crossing it. The texture of the work matters more than the advice that could be drawn from it.
